What are RuneScape Private Servers?

Official RuneScape servers are developed and published by Jagex and everything takes placed in a fantasy world called Gielinor; it’s a medieval realm that’s divided into kingdoms, cities and regions. Players are allowed to travel anywhere with the help of charter shops, magic spells or they can just walk. Every region displays a whole different set of quests, monsters and resources to challenge the players. On the other hand we have RuneScape Private Servers which are designed and published by just about anyone except Jagex. The basic ideas and functions are present but the entire realm, design and goals depend on what the publisher wants since they have absolute freedom to create what they want.

RuneScape Private Servers

As you may have realized, these RuneScape Private Servers are not owned by Jagex and players can think of it as a whole separate world. Players can’t use their official RuneScape account when entering these private servers. You can even create and design a RuneScape private server of your own if you have the time and the patience of designing and modifying everything or you can just enjoy the ones already published by other players.

It isn’t illegal per se, but RuneScape Private Servers do fall in the grey area of terms; so according to legal rules and terms, it’s not really legal but it’s not illegal either. The actual use of the servers violate specific copyright laws under EULA but the act of using the RuneScape’s content alongside official clients connected to developed servers and redesigned by the sad developers is not particularly protected by the law. Do take note that companies like Blizzard and Jagex have taken steps in shutting down certain servers before and this has led to serious civil lawsuits against the owner of the servers; operate and play at your own risk.
